Peirama - Bringing VR to Labs

Peirama is a Lab training tool developed for the BioTechnical Institute of Maryland, Inc. (BTI). The institute is a non-profit to train and places entry-level biotechnicians in Maryland’s rapidly expanding biotech industry. The BTI Laboratory Associates Program provides tuition-free training in basic laboratory skills to bright, ambitious, unemployed, and under-employed residents of the region.

The application is designed to provide learners with lessons and exercises similar to in-person sessions but in Virtual Reality. Learners learn about the different components, the uses and functions of different components and the right methodology to using pipettes in the lab.

This approach to learning provides students with an interactive and immersive environment where they can focus on the lessons without distractions. The application enables students to access lessons at flexible times without depending on professor availability and provides professors with quantitative reports of students’ progress.
